In year 1992, it was a big challenge to work for Mentally Retarded and Cerebral Palsied persons, because of non-availability of Indian Act, limited awareness, less support from government of India and even from other citizens. To take on this challenge Mr. Thakar took the premature retirement from his assignment and he started working for Mentally Retarded and Cerebral Palsied individuals from his own bungalow in the year 1992. Mr. & Mrs. Thakar decided to setup SAVALI a best institution for the care of the Mentally Retarded and Cerebral Palsied beneficiaries. SAVALI - A Shelter for Care has been planned for lifelong care in Sylvan, comforting surroundings with accommodation and modern facilities.For that they have donated their own land in city like Pune to SAVALI for the construction of building.

The institution has all required facilities and services under one roof. This institution was constructed in 1997 without any financial support from government. They have taken financial help from bank. After initial struggle SAVALI has proved to be the first organization in India for life-long care of Mentally Retarded and Cerebral Palsied individuals. This the 1st barrier free building.

SAVALI is a registered charitable trust working for the Mentally Retarted and Cerebral Palsy children and adults. It is non-profitable and non-governmental organization. SAVALI is working for these under privileged individuals for last more than 15 years. This is the first life long center not only in Maharashtra but in India, where all the facilities are provided under one roof.

Savali institute is located at Kothrud area in Pune city having its own building of 8500sqft built up area. Savali has gained the trust and confidence of the parents, government institutes, well wishers and donors by its devotional work. The institute has received recognition from various govt and non-govt organizations for its work. The institute has also received many awards including 4 National Awards.

SAVALI is approved, registered and recognized by Maharashtra State Government and Central Government.
